Savigny Les Beaune

Savigny-les-Beaune is one of the cousins of the center of Burgundy that is Beaune. It is a 348ha commune with its own list of 22 Premier Cru climats, although much less well-known than even Beaune proper, not dissimilar to Bienvenues Batard Montrachet and Batard Montrachet proper. Mainly planted in red, there is a portion of land to the north, near Aloxe Corton and Pernard Vergelesses that produces some good whites as well. Here, the clay soil gives way to more gravel and limestone soil.

Some ancient domains and long lineage produce wines here Probably the most well known would be Domaine Simon Bize, producing a range of soft delicate reds from Savigny's many different climats. Another up and coming producer Francoise Andre does great work from her father's favourite vineyard "Les Vergelesses", both in red and white. It is always fun to compare them side by side!
