Clos des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays is nearly a monopole owned by Domaine des Lambrays – except Taupenot-Merme owns 420 sq meters at the base of the clos which can barely make a barrel of wine. The climat was promoted to grand cru in 1981 though it has a long history dated as early as 1365.

There were some brilliant bottles of Clos des Lambrays in 1940s or before, but then the vines and domaines deteriorated much until seeing rejuvenation in the 1990s under the management of Thierry Brouhin. There are around 3000 cases per year produced and is reputed as “a hand of iron in a glove of velvet”, a powerful wine with full body enrobed in round tannin.
