Clos de la Roche

The northernmost of the 4 grand crus in Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche is virtually adjacent and above Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Les Combottes along the Route des Grand Vins. The 16.9 ha is the largest and usually considered as the classiest grand cru in the commune. It was only 4.57 ha originally back in 19th century but the grand cru has absorbed adjacent lieux-dits of Monts-Luisants-Bas, Mauchamps, Froichots, Chabiots and Fremières, growing to current size.

The wines of Clos de la Roche have power and richness, often come with a touch of earthiness and elements of exotic, darker berries. Wines produced by Dujac, Ponsot, Leroy and Armand Rousseau are fine examples.
