Monthelie, like its cousin Auxey Duresses, is a lesser known village in the Cote de Beaune, and covers around 110 hectares up in the hills between Volnay and Pommard. While the designation can be used for both red and white, the village is 85% in red and only 15% in white. Stylistically the wines are similar of those in Volnay, although not in the same level of elegance and ethereal qualities.

It is therefore no surprise that many of the more well know producers come from the neighbouring villages, with Roulot, Coche-Dury, Comtes Lafon all making some reds here. Otherwise, many of the big negociants such as Louis Jadot, Faiveley also make a wine here. With the prices of neighbouring villages getting more and more out of reach, this could be a good village to look for value.
