Clos de Tart

Clos de Tart is the monopole of Mommesin at the southern end of Morey-Saint-Denis. The 7.53ha grand cru is a neighbor to Les Bonnes Mares. Unlike most of the Côte, the vines here are planted north-south instead of up and down the slope. This allows protection against soil erosion and efficient drainage. There is also a gain in sunlight exposure in such alignment.

The quality of Clos de Tart has been consistent and is among some of the best grand cru wines in Burgundy since came under the management of Sylvain Pitiot in 1996. It carries a signature spicy aroma and is full-bodied, standing somewhere in between Les Bonnes Mares and Clos de la Roche. Meanwhile, Sylvain Pitiot thinks its character is closer to elegance than power. Nevertheless, it is a consistent source of top class Pinot Noirs.
