Morey Saint Denis

Despite having 4 grand crus in the commune, Morey-Saint-Denis is not as famous as its neighboring communes. In fact there is a history of the wines of the commune being sold as Gevrey-Chambertin or Chambolle-Musigny until 1935/36 before it came under its own appellation of Morey-Saint-Denis.

Wines of Morey-Saint-Denis often carry a touch of exotic spice with a tender firmness. It offers its own perfume which is different to the expression from Gevrey-Chambertin or Chambolle-Musigny. In fact, there are quite a lot good value wines from the commune with rather diversified and numerous premier crus and village lieux dits. The monopole Premier Cru Clos de la Bussière of George Roumier can make very good wines. Clos des Ormes, situated directly below Clos de la Roche, is often considered one of the best premier cru.

Morey-Saint-Denis also produces white wine. Premier Cru Les Monts Luisant by Domaine Ponsot is produced by Aligoté rather than Chardonnay in the rest of the Côte. Dujac also produces Les Monts Luisant blanc.
